About Nairobi Technical Training Institute (NTTI)
Nairobi Technical Training Institute (NTTI) stands as a distinguished technical and vocational education and training institute in Kenya, part of the country’s accredited TVET centers. Unlike universities supervised by the Commission for University Education, NTTI receives accreditation from the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority of Kenya.
Located in Nairobi, the institute’s main campus is situated in Ngara Area along Mogira Road, off Park Road and Ring Road, positioned between Kariokor and Pangani Police Station.
The rich history of Nairobi Technical Training Institute dates back to 1951 when it began as “Modern High School,” primarily serving the Asian community in the vicinity. Despite being a secondary school, the curriculum then had a focus on instilling vocational skills, including Mechanical Engineering and Carpentry & Joinery. The school underwent a name change to Technical High School in 1953, with the first Cambridge School Certificate Examination taken in 1954.
Post-independence and inspired by the Ominde Education Commission of 1964, the institution opened its doors to all races. The curriculum maintained its emphasis on Technical Education, expanding to include Plant Mechanical, Woodwork, Electrical, and Motor Vehicle mechanics skills. Both ‘O’ and ‘A’ level classes found a place in the institute’s offerings.
