About The Village Market

The Village Market is situated in Nairobi’s Gigiri residential area, it is a prominent shopping, recreation, and entertainment complex. It covers 210,000 square feet of retail space, hosts over 150 stores and 20,000 square feet of office space. It was designed to mimic an open-air African market, features waterfalls, rivers, plants, and gardens.

Construction began in April 1992 by two Iranian brothers Hamed and Mehraz Ehsani, initially with a proposed 10 shops. Three years later, The Village Market opened its gates, marking the beginning of its growth into a sprawling complex. With three levels, over 150 outlets, and Kenya’s first food court, it quickly became a focal point for shopping and leisure.

Despite its transformation from a coffee farm, it has become one of Nairobi’s prestigious high-end shopping destinations. The brothers invested Ksh90 million to convert a desolate piece of land filled with coffee bushes into a vibrant marketplace.

Renowned architect Mehraz Ehsani, older brother, designed the concept, turning the seven-acre plot into a thriving market hub. The Village Market has evolved to offer diverse recreational facilities, including water slides, a bowling alley, and a Nu-metro cinema hall.
